The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.

A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.

A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.

“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”

Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup

The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.

The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All took part in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.

Production and Release

Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The single features a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.

The group managing the project have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.

“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The context in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.

“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”

The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
