The President Invites Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the individual that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, stated to the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the administration to pause refugee claims and halt providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
