The English Team to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the expected entry for a competition staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.
Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an England men’s match since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.
England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would occur at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Launch and Rally
The event was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they entered the site by approximately 50 activists, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were held up with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Fixture List
The opening game of the tournament will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve the Welsh team if they make it.
Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will cater to family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are due to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would follow suit at Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at every host’s main arena.
The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
