Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
