An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said items including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his worries.
She said Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities once more.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
