Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
