On the eve of his half-decade plus one year as manager, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his longevity in North London is inextricably linked to delivering trophies.

A Look Back: The Arteta Era

The Spanish coach assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and managed to steer the team to an FA Cup triumph a short time later. However, that initial silverware stands as his sole significant piece of silverware since succeeding Unai Emery.

“I can,” he stated when questioned about staying beyond 2027. “Yet it's about today. And many things must occur in the next few months as well to warrant that continuation.”

This weekend sees the landmark with a match versus Everton, the identical team Arsenal met the day after his appointment was announced.

Present Challenges

Arsenal heads into the Everton match managing a fresh setback. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a muscle problem that is expected to keep him out for the coming weeks.

Evolved Priorities

Regardless of the fitness woes and the immense scrutiny, Arteta feels the club's “priorities and messaging” are completely changed from when he initially took over.

The manager referenced the squad's displays as proof they are close. “Examine the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the level we are at.”

He finished by saying, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has not witnessed in the past. And we want to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
